My youngest has started sixth grade today. For the first time she will be walking home from school. Talk about your nervous mommies! It’s only 1/2 a mile but it will be the first time she’s done it on her own. I have adjusted my part time job’s hours so that I can race home to meet her here after school. I may be nuts come December!

I also went to my doctor today for some blood work (oh the joys of an aging body) and on the way in slipped in the entry hall. It was raining cats and dogs, so my shoes were wet and when they hit the linoleum my feet went out from under me. Fell on my knee. OW. But I was right back up and moving along. Of course, all things being equal, the doctor insisted I have Xrays of my knee taken. 8) They showed a perfectly healthy knee. Go figure.

Short Beach - Life Guard

While trying to keep an eye on my daughter in the ocean and not get sunburned at the beach, I liked the way the shadows almost obscured the life guard under his umbrella. This is about a 10 minute sketch.

Child Reading

Here is a 5 minute pencil sketch of my daughter looking through one of my art books. She is a figgity child, so I rarely get to see her in one position for very long. :)

Home Again, Jiggidy Jig!

We had a wonderful week. Drove straight home from Connecticut in 20 hours, stopping only to fill up our bellies or the gas tank.

I am still somewhat tired from the drive. Of course, there is the inevitable fires that need putting out, plus there were nearly 500 messages in my inbox. Sorting through them took most of last evening. Out of the nearly 500, I ended up with only 30 that weren’t SPAM. I can tell you most emphatically that I didn’t miss that in the least.

I will post a few rough pencil sketches from the trip later on today. I got a call shortly after we returned last night asking me to go in to the “day job” today. Seems the other artist has had a family emergency and they have been without any art department for all of last week. Eek.

Here I go jumping back into the fray with both feet!

It’s good to be home.
